![An artist must be keenly aware of other artists working in similar manners, and of their works created in the past and present.
Fellow artist and friend Corin Hewitt introduced me to the work of Kurt Schwitters several years ago, saying that my work at the time seemed to be informed by that of Schwitters. I was embarrassed to admit I was unfamiliar with the work, but also eager to investigate and learn more. Fast forward to 2011, and I am installing a major retrospective of Schwitter’s work at the Princeton University Art Museum, where I serve as Museum Preparator. I’m thrilled to have such close access to Schwitter’s collages, and also to his ground-breaking project, the Merzbau — a three-dimensional environment originally constructed in the 1930’s. This show runs March 26 to June 26, and includes many works which have never before been seen in this region.
