I had a sensational time at the opening reception for John Goodyear’s “The Pear Project” at the Pingry School. I had enlightening conversations throughout the night with friends old and new, and John’s work looked stunning. A great range of scale was represented in the show — from a tiny hidden work on the concrete floor to a 7-foot tall sculpture (aptly named A Large Pear of Gloves) — as was the range of materials. These attributes made for a fun and engaging exhibition. John offered up his artwork in exchange for a $200, $400, or $600 donation to The Japan Society’s Japan Earthquake Relief Fund. (He spent two years of service in Japan, where his wife Anne Dixon joined him, and this experience had an important impact on his work.) Above are a few pictures from the exhibition, up through  May 3, 2011.
