Every so often I am reminded of just how small the (art) world can be. On a recent commute into work, I heard a piece on NPR about a show at the Textile Museum in Washington D.C. titled “Green: The Color and the Cause.” The announcer spoke about the concept for the show and described a few of the artists’ works. Turns out I know one of the included artists — William Knight.
William is someone that I have exhibited alongside and worked with, and he’s never far from my life: As a housewarming present several years ago, he gave our family a dining room table and a beautiful chair. He said that when he first saw the chair, he immediately pictured my wife sitting in it, writing or drawing. And that dining room table is something friends and family have been regularly gathering around for over a decade. For the rest of my commute, I was energized by the thought of knowing William, and felt proud that his work has reached such an important exhibition in Washington D.C.
