Rose
Growing up, my grandmother would sew my Halloween costume each year. I decided to carry that tradition on when my daughter was born, so each year I sew her Halloween costume.
My grandmother died four years ago with Alzheimer’s disease, and I developed this project while working on my daughter’s costume to convey my experience with that loss. In these photographs, you’ll see pins that have been placed into fabric spelling out her name—Rose. Then I removed the pins, allowing the thread to lose its form until it becomes unrecognizable.
These photos are much more personal than previous works and, at their very essence, deal with loss.
